TRAVELING ADIRONDACKS : Artful Applique Techniques
Get ready for a fun, technique-filled art project! Start by making a fused, layered, raw-edge applique Adirondack chair.
Then create a simple landscape for your chair. Depending on your choice of fabrics, your chair may travel to the ocean, forest, flower garden or any landscape you imagine!
TRAVELING ADIRONDACKS: Supply List
Chair: Three 8” squares of fabric. Batiks are the easiest to work with.
Decide what color your chair will be. You will need a light, medium and dark value of that color.
For example, you choose a purple chair. You will need an 8” square of light purple, 8” square of
medium value purple and an 8” square of dark purple
Background: Decide where your chair will travel to (beach, garden, woods)
You will need 1 fat quarter for the “Sky” (doesn’t have to be a blue sky—think outside the box!)
3 to 6 fat quarters for the “Land”
If you are adding water (ocean or lake) bring 2-4 fat quarters for “Water”
3 distinctly different colored pencils (ie, red, yellow, blue)
Sharpie (medium or fine point)
Mechanical Pencil
