Featherweight School: Learn to Service Your Singer Featherweight



This class will cover the basic functions of your machine, how it works, and how to maintain it. You will learn how to:

  - Oil and lubricate the motor
  - Troubleshoot common issues
  - Replace the motor belt and set the belt tension correctly
  - Adjust the hook timing
  - Set both the upper and lower tension

This class is specific to The Singer 221 (Featherweight) and Singer 301

Skill Details:
Requirements: Required Tools: Various Sized Flat Head Screwdrivers including a large "beefy" one to adjust motor belt tension and thin small one to adjust bobbin tension. *We have a bobbin tension screwdrivers available at the shop. Sewing Machine Oil (available at the shop) Scraps of fabric for testing stitches on Cotton rag for wiping oily hands and machine parts on. Bring an old kitchen towel to place under the machine while working on it.

Instructor Bio: Tyler is the owner of The Sewing Machine Exchange. He started repairing sewing machines at his mom's store, Sew Portland fifteen years ago. His teaching experience stems from music. He spent a decade teaching private piano lessons and ensembles at 317 Main St. in Yarmouth and with The Maine Academy of Modern Music.
