THREAD*—Isacord Embroidery Thread is available at The Sewing Machine Exchange. This project requires 7 thread colors: Black, Yellow, Gray, Brown, Blue, Orange and Green. You may bring your own thread if you prefer. Look for something similar, like Sulky Rayon.

Bobbin Thread: Bottom Line Color #623, or other bobbin thread in a pale neutral, ie cream or light gray.

Batting—one piece of batting, about 18” square. Try Warm and Natural or Quilter’s Dream Cotton. 

Backing Fabric—one piece, about 18” square. (a fat quarter will also work.)

Chickadee Block—provided free of charge in class.

A KIT with a box of Crayola crayons, a button for the eye, stabilizer, batting and embroidery hoop frame is available for $10.

OTHER SUPPLIES

Sewing Machine that you are familiar with (don’t forget power cord and foot pedal) 

Please be sure you know how to set your machine up for free motion quilting before class.

Extension Table if you have one for your machine.

Free Motion Foot* (also called a darning foot or hopping foot)

Extra needles* for your sewing machine (size 90/14 Topstitch is a good general size.)

Sewers Aid* to help thread feed smoother  (only if you have it—not essential)

Gloves*—Ask for quilting gloves at The Sewing Machine Exchange.

Small scissors* to snip threads

Reading glasses if you need them

Bring lunch or purchase nearby
