Introduction to Sewing for Kids



In this 2 1⁄2 hour class, you will learn how to use your sewing machine. Starred items are available for purchase at The Sewing Machine Exchange.

Skills taught:
● Becoming familiar with the functions of the machine
● Threading the machine
● Winding a bobbin
● Sewing a straight stitch with a seam allowance
● Learning some decorative stitches (depending on your machine)
● Making a basic square pillow

Materials needed:
● Sewing machine in good working order*
● Three fat quarters or three half yards of different fabrics*
● Thread to match your fabric (2 spools)*
Hand sewing needle*
● Pins*
● Scissors*
● Fabric marking pencil or pen*
Sewing ruler*
● Fiberfill to stuff your pillow

Instructor Bio:
Jeannie has been sewing since she was a child, and quilting for the past 10 years. An
experienced teacher, she has taught adults? and children?s classes and workshops on sewing
and quilting both for Joann Fabric and independently. She is a member of the Calico Quilters, a
Pine Tree Quilt Guild chapter. She has recently become certified as an instructor for Sew Kind
of Wonderful Contemporary Quilt Designs.
