Know Your Machine



Stitch length, stitch width, balance, stretch stitches, bobbin winding, best threading practices, maintenance, and ... tension! Learn the basics of making a great stitch on your sewing machine. Great for beginners or anyone who wants to confidently know their sewing machine and get the most out of it. Get off to a good start with all your projects when you know your machine!

You will need:

  • a working sewing machine with power cord and foot control (any brand, computerized or mechanical)
  • Thread

NOTE: If you have some scrap fabric at home please bring some to sew sample stitches on. We will not be working on projects during this class.

Instructor: Tyler Stanley
Instructor Bio: Head Machine Technician and owner of The Sewing Machine Exchange, Tyler Stanley started off repairing machines with his mom, Kathy Stanley, at Sew Portland. He is a professional keyboardist some nights and a machine tech by day.
